Network problems

Need some help here, So Windows has decided to break its network connection, it can get a connection to what its calling a unidentified network but no internet connection.
Was working, not now, dont recall changing anything, tried a different cable, tried the other network port on the motherboard no joy, I can however access the other machines on the lan, just not the internet.
All the other machines work fine and can get net access.
Any ideas?

Running Windows 7 home premium

Re: Network problems

I used to get the same problem on Vista. Make sure you've got you network set as a "home network".

Don't know why I used to do it, but it did

Re: Network problems

Turn IPV6 off (unless you're using the homeshare thing).
I had a craptastic motorola router, and it gave me **** for a long time until I twigged that

Re: Network problems

Seems to have been the homeshare ****e, some reason the network had set itself to public, put it back to home and it works fine

Re: Network problems

been having so much trouble with networking and Win7 why do MS insist on breaking stuff that worked fine in previous OS's?

Re: Network problems

They certainly haven't made giving permissions to shares to other operating systems any easier. We have a mixture of Windows 7 and XP computers here with my 7 box holding the shares. It took me quite a while to get the sharing permissions sorted out so that all the others could get access and I'm a fully paid up geek. How inexperienced people are supposed to do it is beyond me.

This, I actually thought at one point that perhaps I wasn't dumbing myself down enough, missing the simple option as it was, but no, its is just a ballache.
