Hey,

it's one of those things,

we've all been there,

we've all done it, or known friends who have done it,

But we don't talk about it OKAY!!!!

I can totally and honestly say I've been AOL free for the 100% time I've been using the internet.

Thankfully for me, my pals were very savvy back in 97, so they kept me on the unbeaten path.

My first ISP was a borrowed account for UUNet.

back in the day of the pay per call dial up.

When with a 56k modem you could own a server.

Oh me reminisces to Quake 2 days on random servers.

Yeah, we rid out system of aol

Format c:/

:P

Even if you uninstall the dialer program, you still have the aol task bar in ie, and you pre-saved user settings, also check the registry

that was one of the many questions we got asked at breathe technical support.

if they had aol on, were they boll0cks getting online with us until all traces of that bleeding program had been nuked.

You know there are times when xenophobia is promoted, AOL is that time.

In fact AOL is one of those rogue programs in the matrix, that just does what it likes when it likes...

My dad, (like a dork) put on AOL, lineOne, and yahoo.
All at once, because he kept on getting halfway through a signup, and then not bothering.
Now these buggers never have an un-install facitlity.
It was like a rogue virus on speed.
It had seamed to infect every available thing to do with the internet.

Strange, windows 3.1 seemed to be like that too.
(I only wanted to check it out, oh how it messed up my neatly aranged memory config files in dos6.2)

and from this I learnt a valuable lesson in the computer world
Backup,

and don´t put stuff on your hard-drive that you don¨t know about. (read the manual, ask a mate)

how gator got onto my system, I don´t know.
Thank god I left my old Rig, back in england, it was the only safe way of ridding Gator.

gator is worse in some respects than many of these viruses that are so prevalent around the web.

The thing is Gator is deemed "acceptable", however what people cant understand is how the fck it managed to get onto their systems.

What with its periodic updates, password management (yeah like thats safe), it'll suck a network dry of resources.

And the fun thing is, its a bugger to uninstall if I recall. It always leaves some files on that when connected to a network will recall those stray install files like some ill-fed puppy to your hand.

There should be a blanket ban on any ad/spy/vapour ware

oh and AOL
