Exclamation Benchmark: Half-Life 2: The Lost Coast

GameOn Benchmark Thread

Half-Life 2: Lost Coast was developed as a playable technology demo, intended to showcase the newly-added HDR lighting features of the Source engine that were first implemented into Day of Defeat: Source. Lost Coast also demonstrates in general what the Source engine can achieve when system requirements and detail levels are significantly increased over games designed to run on a broad base of computers, with high-resolution textures and models. While generally not considered part of the Half-Life canon, Lost Coast features minor storyline details that were scrapped from Half-Life 2, such as a headcrab canister launcher. The level takes about 15 minutes in all for regular gamers to finish, although it can increase when commentary is enabled.

Recommended system specifications

* Processor: Pentium 4 2.4GHz or AMD 2800+
* Memory: 1 GB RAM.
* Graphics Card: DirectX 9 compatible
* 335 MB disk space (with Half-Life 2 installed)

Lost Coast is a 98 MB compressed download from Steam and is available free to anyone who owns Half-Life 2.

Despite some claims to the contrary, Lost Coast runs on computers with specifications lower than that listed above, albeit without some of the key focal features such as HDR.

How to benchmark:

On the main menu there should be an option labeled "Video Stress Test". Simply run that and take a screenshot of the result and post it here along with the resolution and settings used as well as your hardware and speeds and ofc your OS eg.

Depending on the range of settings used and the response will determine whether or not a table will be put up. For the time being this is simply a point of reference.

Would *really* like to see some Core Duo scores.

If I can't edit my post when im back, feel free to delete this to keep it tidy, unless there's a discussion here aswell

Depending on how messy it gets i may well split out the non-results to another thread, but for the meantime this is probably the best place for discussion.

Overclocked and stock scores would be awesome dude, thank you.

And Bounty, thanks chap.

EDIT: can CPU and gfx card speeds be listed too please even if stock. There are a couple of variations on the same model cpus, might be worth adding the core type too (eg. San Diego, Manchester, Newcastle etc).

Umm I think mine went wrong, for some reason HDR is not running when I do the benchmark, when I play it works fine.

ROFL, Jesus Christ! Wow.

EDIT: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Nvidia cards dont do 6x AA in HL2, if you select it they default to 0x so it needs to be set to 4 or forced (i think you can do a 6x combined multisampled/supersampled mode, bit of a perfo hit tho, try and Google for nHancer, that should do the business) via a third party app.

It's not working at all in 'benchmark'.
I can take off AA and it still wont work, same with AF etc.

But it works fine when I actually go play it.
