Megaupload file-sharing site shut down, founder charged

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-16642369

So what, now any site that users can upload files to can be shut down?
I think this is Americas big FU to everyone who protested against SOPA / PIPA.
Worrying times ahead, good bye Internets it was nice knowing you.

Re: Megaupload file-sharing site shut down, founder charged

also just out of curiosity if anyone knows.
they are removing the DNS records for the sites they dont like right?
surely then some one just needs to set up another DNS that doesnt take updates from teh US servers? then have the clients point to that DNS for unresolved addresses?
for the home user it would just be a case of slapping in the secondard DNS server as the new one they want to use.
obviously theres a degree of trust involved here :S

Anyone else noticed that when you start typing "Megaupload" on Google, it doesn't come up in the suggested search?

Re: Megaupload file-sharing site shut down, founder charged

Looks like the guy behind the site was pretty shady and did some shady things with the site, if you believe the media that is.
Shame there was no warning so users could retrieve there files.

Well, I would assume it's more or less because they would charge users who would then download/upload copywritten material.

Filesonic and Fileshare have disabled their "sharing" abilities and you can now only download files that you uploaded.

Who's next...
