A cycle trip setting off around 8pm. Soon found myself going around Foxhall (and the racing pits!), and then on to the outskirts of Ipswich, before reaching home at 9:30pm.

Crikey what a journey! A 3.5hr cycle trip, passing through Bucklesham, Foxhall, Levington, Nacton, Orwell, Ipswich and home again! Highlights include a nice Subway meal next to Orwell Park!

A whopping 7.25hr, 50 mile cycle ride. Following the Suffolk Coastal Route, I went through Waldringfield, Newbourne, Kirton, Trimley St Martin, Felixstowe, across to Bawdsey via a short Ferry ride, Alderton, Hollesley, Butley, Chillesford, Tunstall Forest, Orford, Iken, Snape, Blaxhall, Tunstall, Campsey Ashe, Wickham Market, Ufford, Melton, Woodbridge and Old Martlesham.

Legs packed in at Tunstall, but after a generous 30min lunch break I managed to make the last 20 miles, just not in record time! A nice pub dinner rounded off a long day...

Probably the last cycle of the year saw a 2hr, 20 mile voyage through Bealings, Seckford, Grundisburgh, Culpho, Tuddenham, North Ipswich, Rushmere and Kesgrave.

Best highlight was seeing a RAF Spitfire and Dakota flying round the valley below. The thunderous noise of the planes made me wish there could be another Battle of Britain!

A two-and-a-half hour walk around the Sizewell Estate, which involved a walk along the beach to the edge of Minsmere, and then on to the District Survey Labs (DSL) and then back. About 10miles.

Picture Cycle Route 1-12-1 (16/11/08)
In what is absolutely the last cycle of the year, this was exploration of routes 1 and 12 in the East of England. Covering 20 miles, this 2hr trip started on route 1 through Martlesham and Kesgrave, and then onto Ipswich, before changing to route 12 which went up to the pleasant Castle Hill with a brief passage along the infamous Shakespeare Road in North-West Ipswich. After that terrifying experience I rejoined route 1 to head back home (whilst getting lost in the process).

Made it safely home just before it was too dangerous to cycle without lights! The real challenge, however, came as temperatures fell to <5 degrees and the sun fell behind some ominously dark clouds. Wearing just shorts and t-shirt, I lost all feeling in my hands and fingers. Not the most relaxing cycle then ;)

A 28 mile loop to Bramford and back. Stopped in town half way to get some stuff for the Germany trip next week, which bumped the trip to 4.25hrs. Had an embarrasing moment where I managed to go back on myself without knowing, but a Subway lunch by a stream under the shade of tree was nice.

My first cycle of the year, so glad to be back to the open countryside! A 1.25hr 10mile opening trip around Rushmere, Playford and Little Bealings. Camera phone ran out of battery half way round, so one amazing shot of the Fynn Valley will have to remain in my memories ;)

My 13th (recorded) cycle in the Suffolk countryside was certainly unlucky. A slightly ambitious bit of off-road biking resulted in losing front brakes and, worse, a split inner tube and rear tyre. I was about 8 miles from home at this time and the only option was to walk along busy country roads and through a bustling small town with my wreck of a bike. Whole trip ended up taking around four hours instead of the predicted two. Still, at least I got some pretty decent snaps :)

A 6hr cycle adventure of around 40 miles (including 2 miles ferry). Cycled down to Felixstowe in an hour, crossed via ferry to Harwich, had a quick 45mins look around, crossed via ferry to Shotley, up to Ipswich and back home again. Oh and tastey Egg Benedict for lunch. Last cycle of the year.

A 4.25hr cycle ride through Snape Maltings, the scenic Iken, Sudbourne, Orford and Tunstall. Had a delicious butter and jam scone for lunch with a delightful fairy cake for afterwards. Om-nom-nom.

2 months behind schedule, this first cycle of the year - and indeed first cycle since moving house - saw the sights of Knodishall, Kelsale, Saxmundham, Benhall and Sternfield. An unfit start to the cycling season meant a tough ride into head winds resulting in the legs becoming shot half way around. Still, some nice long downhill sections and classic sights made this a great cycle ride :)
