he fails to mention that AMD are still cheaper, and in comparison to P4 counterparts, faster.

there are more stability issues, but if you get the right setup by reading what previous people have said, then you'll be fine. most people whining have bought either cheap, crap, or the wrong mobo when getting XPs.

so nuff said really.. AMD arnt loosing, and Intel havnt beat AMD, cos AMDs next gen isnt long away, and it'll rape Intels new Sledge/Claw Hammers, as all AMD generations do to Intel.

You get far more bang 4 your buck with AMD. I consider Pentiums 2 be an extravagance now , just can't justify the cost.

i recently put 2gether a workstation comprised of dual PIII 1Gig, why? cos of the cost and the fact that i didn't have the money to spend on a 2000XP cos the lower end XP's i would get the same performance as my 1Gigz in Real World apps.. and i trust Intel to work first time without hastle, all the AMD PC's i've ever had have never worked properly (these using AMD chipset Mobos)

i like Intel, any of the stuff i've ever owned has always worked well and first time.. and i've built just a few PC's in my time

oops, my bad, got the wording backwards

its not that far away, especially when theyre allowing people to do tests with them already.

im not getting into this, cos Intel v AMD debates -always- get heated..

i think one of the main reasons this debates end up being flame wars is cos people spend ALOT of money in their systems, and being told X component isnt as good as Y component, after spending hundreads for it, is very annoying

strangely enough, a Celeron system of mine wont have XP either, its a pile of crap anyway and ive not even tried looking around for possible soloutions..

never had a problem with an AMD system, bar SB Live issues, which is Creatives fault, not AMDs or Mobos.

pffffft

what a read

as NBK said its all true - dont agreee with the XP renaming thing though. My belief is that it is a good idea as they do compare well. As i had all but forgotten they dont actuall run at 2ghz.

It will be head and head all the way. AMD have slipped slighly and are falling behind but they are still good. As for relaibility that bob pointed out? Never had a single problem with them nor with Intel machines. In general if you buy half decent parts you should be fine.

AMD are the samller company and the war it is waging with Intel is mirrored with the war between Linux and Microsoft. Intel have vast posts of cash to fall back on and invest in R & D while AMD dont (in comparison). As the guy said - do you ever see an AMD advert?

okay -
I've seen black cd/dvd/cd-rw drives on OcUK.
And theres always black car spray paint
That case is way noisy - resembles a combat helecopter taking off when you turn it on - good thing is, i never have to worry about stuff overheating too seriously - its stone cold in there!

no idea, i'm staying beige for the while, at least then i dont have to look round everywhere in search of special drives. I'm pretty certain dabs.com have some black little numbers. But with demend for them hardly masive, you can expect them to be more expensive, as you'd guess.
Shame CD/DVD/CDRW drives aren't made with interchangable facias, so all yuo need do is swap the fascia.
But i suppose i'm just being an idealist :/

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...CD_DVD_10.html

the CD-RW drive, 40x CD drive and DVD drives all look pretty good, still, 41.07 for a 40X cd drive, u can get a 52X one for half that.

all the same, thats the price of joining the dark side *literally*

hmmmmmmz
a black 16x pioneer DVD and a black 40x plextor cd-rw

i think thats good enough for me

but i just remembered

my new machine in the black case will be for games only

i was gonna turn this PC into file server, browsing, icq, irc, downloading type machine thing...which would also act as a burner

so i dunno if i still need a black cd-rw
