Assistance requested recording TV to file
Does anyone have the capability to record a TV program and save it as a file? AVI, MPG or WMV preferably.
My youngest daughter is in her school choir which reached the finals of the Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year competition.
This is being transmitted on BBC1 at 5pm this Sunday (22nd March) and I do not have any means of recording it.
I'd be really grateful if someone could record it for me in as high a quality as possible.
Please let me know if you are able to help.

Re: Assistance requested recording TV to file
We could do it, but would have to get it converted somewhere from the ms-dvr? format I think its in when recorded by media centre.
I'll record it, and see if I can convert it somehow for you.

Re: Assistance requested recording TV to file
It's worth getting multiple people to record it :P
I'll ask my bro to give it a go, he records it completely uncompressed so wont be any loss in quality. Does create nice large file sizes!

Re: Assistance requested recording TV to file
Right, it's setup in the guide for recording, will check again closer to the time to ensure recording.
All I then need is a way to convert from the Media Centre format out to AVI or whatnot. Will research that tonight tho

Re: Assistance requested recording TV to file
Converting into a 9Gb AVI file on the Media Centre as we speak. Will move that to my computer for further transcoding into Xvid for transfer to yourself

Re: Assistance requested recording TV to file
Thanks Dawson, that's brilliant.
Sorry to be picky but would it be possible to get a batter quality version as well? I want to put it on DVDs to send to family.
For those who are interested Katy's choir is the second one to sing (Southfields Junior School) and she is in the middle of the front row. (The slimmer of the two)
One very proud father over here.

Certainly mate, tbh that I have uploaded was more just for you to see its there and ready. I still have the shy of 9bg uncompressed AVI which, if you like, I could compress it onto a proper DVD that would play in standard DVD players and mail it to you? Then all you have to do is make a copy of it as many times you need it.
I can also cut off the bits before and after the show (media centre records about 5 mins either way to ensure you get the full program).

Re: Assistance requested recording TV to file
If you could put the file onto a DVD for me that would be brilliant. I'd rather be able to stream it to the PS3 from my PC. I can easily burn it to DVD to send to the elderly relatives.
Thanks again.
