Recommend Me a new Email Account
Lo peeps, been away for a week, returned today and found a lovely email from BT announcing closure of certain services, inparticular free ones or old accounts ie [email protected] accounts.
'During the war' , I used to be with BT when I first had net here 16 years ago, well needless to say my email address which I have had since then is going to be closed , unless I either sign up back to BT or pay £1.60 month to keep the account open.
It all seems a right fecking pain in the ass to change email accounts, everything, well about 90% of registration, contacts, forums and games are all associated with this account.
Dunno if I might seem tight, but?
1. Would you, or do you currently pay for such services.
2. Get a new account and troll through every game, contact, forum registration and change my email, if so whats do most of you use for email accounts because I have led a sheltered life and this email service is all I've really known?

Gmail? Used since the start and no issues, In light of recent NSA leaks though I tend to be a little more careful about what I use it for.

Can you not ask them to set up an automatic forwarding to a new e-mail?

Not sure, there not providing a great deal of info at moment, other than sign up here by 16th Sept 2013 or lose it, but will check if that's possible. But I'm a cynical person and suspect that will be a no no from the on set.

Done some digging and as I suspected, what an arse.
If you choose not to link your existing email address to your residential BT Broadband service or take BT Premium Mail, when the email service ends we'll delete your email address. This will mean:
all emails and personal information held within your email address and the associated services will be deleted and you won't be able to get them back
all emails sent to your email address will be rejected and a notice will be sent to the sender telling them that your email address is invalid
all email functionality provided to you as part of the service will be ended
Once we've deleted your email address, it won't be possible to recover any of your personal data so it's important to act now.

Re: Recommend Me a new Email Account
I am trying several new email accounts to see which I like, and forwarding all messages so I can view reply and hopefully find one I like.
The list is.
Gmail
Outlook under live.com
Zoho.com

Re: Recommend Me a new Email Account
TBH I've been using Hotmail/Live ever since it started many many years ago and I've never found it necessary to change to anything else.

Re: Recommend Me a new Email Account
I had Hotmail years ago in the age of MSN but ended up moving to Gmail after my spam got too large. It was the age of spam and it was the only e-mail I ever got.
Moved to Gmail and became a lot more liberal what I put my e-mail into. Saying that, I still get a shiton of Spam.
I also have: Gmail, Blueyonder (pre-Virgin Media e-mail), my Kaostic domain and iswho.co.uk all go into my Gmail client.

Re: Recommend Me a new Email Account
Spam is a fact of life these days unless you change your email address every year or two. Which email service you use doesn't seem to have any bearing on the amount you get. The spam filter on my Hotmail account seems quite effective though. Like all of them it misses some and puts the odd genuine email into the spam folder but on the whole it's pretty good.

Re: Recommend Me a new Email Account
Mainly use Hotmail (or Outlook/Live/whatever the hell it's going by now) and Gmail. Both have worked fine for me so far.

Re: Recommend Me a new Email Account
At the moment I am liking the simplicity of outlook, zoho seems slow to respond to clicks, gmail has lot of features which are nice, so going to give it a week or so and decide then.
Thanks for the input guys.

Re: Recommend Me a new Email Account
Fazer,
Take a look at this - http://www.mailstore.com/en/mailstore-home.aspx
It'll download all of your mail via POP3/Imap to your computer so that when they do shut it off, you have a backup of all of your information.

Yeah, used it a few times at work for people who are switching their email around to make sure there's a backup somewhere physical. It's a really handy bit of kit to have laying around.
