Your Top Movies of 2008

At the end of every year, I tend to make a list of the movies I enjoyed the most that year (including older movies and movies I've already seen a billion times). In this thread, post your own list Of everything you've watched during 2008, what stands out the most?

Here's my list of favorite movies:

1. Moulin Rouge - Absolutely amazing! Colors, settings, music, the acting, Nicole Kidman, emotions, the plot, everything!

2. Schindler's List - Emotional, beautiful, keeps you interested despite the long length. Black and white is usually boring, but in this case it's brilliant! And the ending, when the actors in the movie walk up to Mr. Schindler's actual grave alongside the real-life survivors whom they are portraying: so cool and sad!

3. K-Pax - Visually very good, and a brilliant story! Kevin Spacey is great in this one!

4. Amélie from Montmarte - Unusual and quite clever. Sort of cosy.

5. One Hour Photo - Like K-Pax this move is visiually very good. Nice to see Robin Williams as a serious character. A movie that says a lot in very few words.

Movies that didn't quite make it:

Spirited Away - Seen it too many times, gotten tired of it

Wall-E - Good movie, but didn't quite meet the high expectations. If the hype around it hadn't been so massive, I probably would have liked it more.

The Objective - From the creators of The Blair Witch Project, this is a good and unusual movie, but it's not as satisfying as it could and should be.

High School Musical (1 and 2) - Yes, I admit it! I like High School Musical! So sue me! It's sweet, feel-good and just makes you very happy. But no, I don't like it THAT much, so it doesn't make the top list. I haven't seen the third yet, but I will eventually...

Grave of the Fireflies - From the studio that created Spirited Away. Awesome and more serious (and emotional) movie about a yong Japanese boy who loses, well, everything during WWII. But as with Spirited Away, my interest has faded and it's no longer what it once was...

Movies that were totally disappointing:

The Kite Runner - Read the book instead...

PS. I Love You - What the? Buuh, I almost fell asleep!

Hairspray - Good idea, but it falls flat. The only thing good about this movie is John Travolta.

So go on, post your lists

In terms of Schindler's List, it's a heart-warming tale of what one person can do if they say no. It's shocking, but deeply needed to make sure we don't forget.

Don't know why black and white is usually dull, doesn't affect me. It's needed for that film, adds to its effect.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dark Knight as a new release. I think it's probably one of the best superhero movies ever made, although the unnecessary and rather disappointing inclusion of Two-Face really let it down for me (he deserved his own movie).

I got Transformers at Christmas last year and watched it on average twice a day for like three months so that probably deserves a mention. I don't even know why I like it so much, I just find it very entertaining.

Sleepy Hollow surprised me, it's amazingly brutal for a Burton movie and was a not entirely unexpected treasure.

The new Hulk film is also absolutely incredible and that WAS unexpected. It was good to see it back on form after the slow paced (but not all bad) predecessor. Ironman was also very good, although it was a little too... dunno. I'd say "farfetched" but it's a freakin' superhero movie.

For crap movies, Disaster Movie and Quarantine pretty much top my s**tlist. Quarantine is a poorly presented and generally boring movie that spoils itself with it's own damn advertising, and Disaster Movie is the worst film I have ever seen in my entire life.

I bought that due to a "top films before you die," list and I just couldn't get into it. It was definitely surreal, just not entertaining.
