First Graphics Cards

not including olden days of on board graphices or even shitty ones that come with pcs.

what was the first graphics card you bought for your pc?

my first pc was a compaq presario with some gay onboard gfx so my first graphics card was:

Guillemot Maxi Gamer Cougar Video Edition Graphics Card

nVidia Riva TNT2 M64 graphic processor, PCI interface, 32 MB (SDRAM), Performance: 1920 x 1200, 128-bit

it would appear you can still even buy them: linky

Mine would've had to have been a Diamond Voodoo2 12MB. I still have the invoice somewhere, and it cost me 135. How depressing ...

Aye NBk, I remember I was amazed when I once lent my m8s monitor which could display in 1024x768

I am generally several generations of card behind everyone and i try to make my gear last as long as poss so from the S3 I had:

Voodoo 3 3000 which lasted about 2.5 years with my 300a celeron system w/t 128mb ram & wicked GL drivers which owned .I was still using it for cs when people were buying their P3's and Gf 2ti's

After that I moved on to an Abit Gf2mx t400 64mb that lasted well over a year before getting a gf4ti4200 128mb that I am still using at the moment

my system ran Quake @ 1280

and i got 10fps out of it running Q2 in 640 OGL, b4 voodoo came out

so i got a voodoo for games

- then it was dual Voodoo 2

my video card died

so i bought a Matrox G400 for my new Dual P3 450

then i got a nice 3Dlabs GVX-1 for xmas from my brother

i stopped doing work from home for a while so i bought a GForce 2 Ti

then started freelance, got rid of the Ti in my station and put my GVX-1 back in my Dual P3 1.1

just upgraded from GVX-1 to a Wildcat VP870 dual screen goodness

and have a radeon 9700 Pro in my Games rig

Heh, I bought 2 Voodoo 2 12MB cards and ran em in SLI mode. Was the dogs blx in it's time. Quake at 120fps or more! Were even fine to play most games on, except they only work in OpenGL.

They lasted me until the Geforce 2's came out, as they were still as fast as most of the Voodoo 3's. Then I got a GeForce 2 MX200, and then a proper Geforce2 Per0.

Since then I've had a Hercules GF3 Ti200, then an Abit GF4 Ti4400, and now am running a Hercules 9800XT

I started off with a voodoo 1 card. That one died (mysteriously - honest wifey, it has just died) so I had to buy a voodoo2 then! Such a shame. Then got a GeForce DDR, now running a GeForce4 Ti4400 from leadtek.

I have to say, reading this thread I find it amazing how geeky we all are remembering all this stuff. So sad.
