Well not for me, a friend of Oli's has seen the light and wants to start PC gaming.
He has a budget of £575, the cost can not go over this price, including any postage.
Items needed:
Monitor 24inch
Case
Motherboard
CPU
GFX
Memory
PSU
Homeplug Network via mains
HDD
SSD if there is enough cash left!
No requirement for Keyboard, mouse, Windows.

Re: Build Me a Gaming PC
Thats the cheapest GPU I could find with 4gb ram so wouldn't change that for future proofing, there were cheaper PSU's, I would have to have a read up on them though, standard advice is never cheap out on a PSU, its the most important part of your PC.

Re: Build Me a Gaming PC
Cheers Plat, I knew you couldn't resist a challenge , Will this run the latest games?
I'm building this for him, never used a hybrid HDD/SSD, take it there just two separate partitions.
He has an Hitachi 7200 1 TB HDD in is HP pc he bought 12 months ago second hand, but does not run the games due to mini, mobos, onboard gfx etc. Was thinking of swapping out and using that cash for an SDD, thoughts?

Re: Build Me a Gaming PC
Plat, do your thing again matey
He has now changed his mind and no longer needs the monitor, so the budget is the same £575 but no monitor. Side note the AMD FX 6300 are on pre order, scan don't have eta for new stock, maybe intel or different AMD in stock?
Items needed.
Case
Motherboard
CPU
GFX
Memory
PSU
Homeplug Network via mains
HDD
Removed SSD, he seemed happy with the hybrid drive.

Re: Build Me a Gaming PC
Cheers, might be able to get a Intel chip now but I would put it towards a faster AMD chip and a faster GPU.

Re: Build Me a Gaming PC
Try that, Intel wise for the same cash you can only get a Core i3, GPU wise you can get a 960 for the money but I belive the 380x is faster.

Re: Build Me a Gaming PC
He is asking, what if he used the first build, but put a Nvidia 970 in instead of the 960? I have suggest it might be too power full for his cpu and would not benefit, but to sure thought I would check back here 1st.
A problem shared :P

Yeah, he's got the £93.00 from the monitor to play around with.
Oh thanks for the update, I will let him know.

I will stand corrected, no it wouldn't be in his budget, I've just checked.
Waiting to hear from him, I'm getting the feeling he may abandon this.

Re: Build Me a Gaming PC
I have a 970 with a 4650k and it's working well. Physics might take a bit of a hit compared to a better processor but he'll definitely get a decent boost with the graphics. In fact I believe it'll hit the min spec for a Rift now.

Re: Build Me a Gaming PC
Just to let you know. I built a PC for my daughter over christmas using one of those hybrid drives. They are pretty sweet. However it takes a few boots for it to get used to what files you use most to be added to the SSD part of the drive. I notice that since installing windows the load time has been reduced dramatically.
Also For a starting graphics card a 950 is a good choice. Pretty much maxing out minecraft and sims 3.
